What’s the Ingredient That Will Transform Your Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

2 lbs (1 kg) potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)

4 tbsp unsalted butter (or more to taste)

½ cup warm cream or milk (optional, for extra smoothness)

Salt to taste

Pepper (optional)

Fresh herbs or roasted garlic (optional)

👩‍🍳 Directions:

  1. Boil the potatoes
    Peel and cut into chunks. Boil in salted water until tender, about 15–20 minutes.
  2. Drain well
    Remove all excess moisture — this is key for fluffy mash.
  3. Mash with butter first
    Add the butter while the potatoes are still hot. Mash until smooth and creamy.
  4. Adjust texture
    Only if needed, add a splash of warm cream (not water) until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Season and serve
    Add salt, pepper, and any herbs you like. Serve hot with extra butter on top.
