Warm Baked Apple Fritters

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

2/3 cup milk

2 eggs

2 tablespoons melted butter

1 1/2 cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Glaze

1 cup powdered sugar

2–3 tablespoons milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

🥣 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a muffin tin or baking sheet.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla.
  4. Combine & fold in apples: Add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture. Stir just until combined, then fold in diced apples.
  5. Spoon batter: Drop spoonfuls into the muffin tin or onto the baking sheet (about ¼ cup each).
  6. Bake: 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Drizzle over warm fritters.

🍎 Tips

For extra flavor, toss apples with a little brown sugar and cinnamon before adding to the batter.

Serve warm with coffee or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert.
