Ingredients

4 large potatoes (thinly sliced)

1 ½ cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 ½ cups shredded cheese (Gruyère, cheddar, or mozzarella blend)

2 tbsp butter

Salt and black pepper to taste

Fresh chives (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: to 375°F (190°C). Butter a round or square baking dish.
  2. Prepare sauce: In a saucepan, heat cream, milk, butter, and garlic over medium heat until warm (do not boil). Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Layer potatoes: Arrange a layer of potato slices in the dish, sprinkle cheese, and pour a bit of the cream mixture over. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
  4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
  5. Garnish: Let it rest for 10 minutes, then sprinkle with fresh chopped chives before serving.
