Loaded Cheesy Pocket Tacos: Your New Favorite Handheld Meal

Ingredients

For the dough (easy version):

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp salt

1 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp oil

¾ cup warm milk (more if needed)

(You can also use store-bought pizza dough for a quicker version.)

For the filling:

1 lb (450 g) ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp salt

½ tsp oregano

½ cup tomato sauce or pizza sauce

1–1½ cups mozzarella cheese (cut into cubes or shredded)

For brushing:

1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk

Instructions

  1. Make the dough
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and oil.
  3. Add warm milk gradually and knead until a soft, smooth dough forms.
  4. Cover and let rest for 20–30 minutes.
  5. Prepare the beef filling
  6. In a skillet, cook ground beef with onions until browned.
  7. Add garlic, paprika, pepper, salt, and oregano.
  8. Stir in tomato/pizza sauce.
  9. Simmer 5 minutes and let cool slightly.
  10. Assemble the pillows
  11. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  12. Roll the dough into a large rectangle and cut into squares.
  13. Place a spoonful of beef mixture in the center of each square.
  14. Add a cube (or spoonful) of mozzarella cheese on top.
  15. Fold each square over or place another square on top and seal the edges tightly.
  16. Arrange in a greased baking dish.
  17. Bake
  18. Brush the tops with the egg wash.
  19. Bake 20–25 minutes, until golden and puffed.

Serving

Serve warm with marinara, garlic yogurt sauce, or ketchup.
