Ingredients
For the dough (easy version):
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp oil
¾ cup warm milk (more if needed)
(You can also use store-bought pizza dough for a quicker version.)
For the filling:
1 lb (450 g) ground beef
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
½ tsp oregano
½ cup tomato sauce or pizza sauce
1–1½ cups mozzarella cheese (cut into cubes or shredded)
For brushing:
1 egg yolk + 1 tbsp milk
Instructions
- Make the dough
- In a bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and oil.
- Add warm milk gradually and knead until a soft, smooth dough forms.
- Cover and let rest for 20–30 minutes.
- Prepare the beef filling
- In a skillet, cook ground beef with onions until browned.
- Add garlic, paprika, pepper, salt, and oregano.
- Stir in tomato/pizza sauce.
- Simmer 5 minutes and let cool slightly.
- Assemble the pillows
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll the dough into a large rectangle and cut into squares.
- Place a spoonful of beef mixture in the center of each square.
- Add a cube (or spoonful) of mozzarella cheese on top.
- Fold each square over or place another square on top and seal the edges tightly.
- Arrange in a greased baking dish.
- Bake
- Brush the tops with the egg wash.
- Bake 20–25 minutes, until golden and puffed.
Serving
Serve warm with marinara, garlic yogurt sauce, or ketchup.
