Grandma’s Secret Monterey Sausage Pie

Ingredients

1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage

1 cup (115 g) shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1 cup (115 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup chopped onion (optional)

1 cup milk

1/2 cup Bisquick or any baking mix

2 large eggs

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. Cook the Sausage:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage (and onion if using) until browned. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Assemble the Pie:
Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the bottom of the pie plate.
Sprinkle both cheeses over the sausage.
  4. Mix the Batter:
In a bowl, whisk together milk, Bisquick, eggs, salt, and pepper until smooth.
Pour the mixture evenly over the sausage and cheese layer.
  5. Bake:
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool and Serve:
Let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!

💡 Tips

Add diced green chilies or bell peppers for extra flavor.

For a lighter version, use turkey sausage and low-fat cheese.

It reheats beautifully — perfect for meal prep!
