Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

Ingredients

For the Steak

500 g beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 teaspoon grated ginger

Vegetables

1 green bell pepper, sliced

1 red bell pepper, sliced

1 yellow bell pepper (optional), sliced

1 medium onion, cut into chunks

Pepper Steak Sauce

(as shown in your image)

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon low-sodium soy sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon sesame oil (optional)

¼ cup beef broth or water

1 teaspoon cornstarch (for thickening)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef
  2. Slice beef thinly against the grain.
  3. Toss with soy sauce, cornstarch, oil, garlic, and ginger.
  4. Let marinate for 10–15 minutes.
  5. Cook the Vegetables
  6. Heat a splash of oil in a large pan or wok.
  7. Add onions and stir-fry 1 minute.
  8. Add all bell peppers and cook until slightly softened but still crisp.
  9. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  10. Sear the Beef
  11. Add a bit more oil if needed.
  12. Sear beef on high heat until browned (about 2–3 minutes).
  13. Do not overcrowd the pan — cook in batches if necessary.
  14. Add the Sauce
  15. Return vegetables to the pan with the beef.
  16. Stir together oyster sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar, black pepper, sesame oil, broth, and cornstarch slurry.
  17. Pour into the pan and stir until everything is coated and the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  18. Serve

Garnish with sesame seeds or extra cracked black pepper.

Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
