Delicious Homemade Potato Cakes

Ingredients

4 medium potatoes, peeled and grated

1 small onion, grated (optional)

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 egg

Salt and pepper to taste

Oil or butter for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes:
    Grate the potatoes and place them in a clean kitchen towel. Squeeze out as much liquid as possible to make them crispier.
  2. Mix ingredients:
    In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, onion, flour, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
  3. Heat the pan:
    Add oil or butter to a non-stick skillet and heat over medium heat.
  4. Shape and cook:
    Drop spoonfuls of the potato mixture into the hot pan and flatten gently with a spatula.
    Cook for 3–4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Serve:
    Drain on paper towels. Serve hot with sour cream, garlic sauce, or a soft poached egg.

💡 Tips

For extra crispiness, use russet potatoes.

You can add herbs like parsley or chives for extra flavor.

Try mixing in some cheese for a richer taste.
