Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter or shortening
⅔ cup warm water (approximate)
Extra butter (for brushing)
Extra salt (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat oven:
Set to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. - Mix dry ingredients:
In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. - Cut in the butter:
Add 2 tablespoons butter or shortening, and mix with a fork or pastry cutter until crumbly. - Add water:
Gradually add warm water, mixing until a dough forms. You want it smooth but not sticky. - Roll out the dough:
On a floured surface, roll the dough very thin (about 1/16 inch). The thinner it is, the crispier your crackers will be. - Cut into squares:
Use a knife or pizza cutter to cut into small squares. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet. - Dock and season:
Prick each cracker a few times with a fork to prevent puffing. Lightly brush with melted butter and sprinkle a little salt on top. - Bake:
Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Watch closely so they don’t overbrown. - Cool and serve:
Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
Optional buttery topping (like in the photo):
After baking, while still warm, spread a thin layer of butter on top for that soft, salty, comforting touch.
